In a closet that has double closet rods, the typical heights of the rods are between 38-40 inches to center from the floor on the lower rod, and 76-80 inches to center from the floor on the upper closet rod. A high closet rod is usually around 70″ to center from the floor. You can adjust these heights as your needs dictate, but it is advisable to keep them in a standard range for resale or rental purposes to accommodate the needs of different occupants.
The closet rods and pole holders I used in this dual closet installation are all heavy duty. I always use heavy duty rods and hardware, the price difference in price with standard is insignificant and the difference is between load carrying ability is huge
