Porsche Hot No Start | Crank Shaft Position Sensor

Your Porsche not starting when warm? You may have a bad Crankshaft Position Sensor. My Boxster was not starting after it had warmed up and would only start again after it had cooled down. I’ve heard the sensor causing hot no start problems on the 996 and Cayenne as well. This video shows the tools needed and describes the location and other things related to changing the sensor on a Boxster. Filming the actual repair was not possible due to the cramped spaces that the sensor lives in. Sorry ’bout that.

The sensor is located on the right side of the Boxster, between the engine and transmission. The sensor is held on by a single 5mm cap head screw. You gain access to the sensor by removing the right rear wheel and remove the sensor using the ratchet with long extensions and 5mm allen socket. The electrical connectors are held to the engine by clips and are the most difficult part of the job.

I suggest that you use a flashlight and inspect the cap head screw before attempting to remove. The screw on my Porsche was stripped and I needed to pound a torx into the screw and remove that way and use a new screw to attach the new sensor.

Tools needed to change the Crankshaft Position Sensor:
1. 3/8 Ratchet, with long extensions
2. 5mm Allen Socket
3. Jack
4. Jack Stand
5. Tools to remove the wheel
6. Flashlight
